Sciency

I'm not calling for censorship, just asking users to pick their battles so voat doesn't become a free-for-all hub for verbal fights. I much prefer discussion, but that usually requires both parties to be interested in communication.

Sciency

I tend to agree with you, I just don't like the idea of people taking the bait the new users are bringing in.

And yeah, I'd say you're mid line as SCP goes. I tend to think that anyone with a top submission with over 1% of their total ccp/scp is in the "normal" group. It's okay to be a power user though, I just don't like the power users that will post anything for some notoriety. One particular user that spams askvoat comes to mind, but I'd don't wanna start drama.

twentyfive

i mainly see myself gettng downvoated for no reason but for just stating a opinion or fact that is correct but rubs the wrong way. and i see it happen to alot of users aswell, they are 100% correct but said in a "mean" way. soo feeeeels were hurt.

the "powerusers" i get into with a couple of them. their argument is always weak and can only regurgitate talking point and buzzwords. but none the less, im still glad they post shit. if agree or disagree and if i want to comment i do

Sciency

More power to you then. If you're getting something out of it, who am I to advise you against?

Atarian

Just comment "Lurk moar" and downvote. They'll soon fit in, or get cheesed off and go home.

lackscompassion

What is a superuser?

Sciency

I'm not sure there's an absolute definition, but essentially the people that post all day, every day. The karma whores that act more like bots than people, despite the fact that they probably are very much human.

ocd

regardless of topic. Keeping civil even in the face of apparent rudeness and baiting is probably the easiest way to stay sane. Reddit actually was an incredibly civil and open minded community for a long time and different people have different opinions as to reasons for a decline. /r/theoryofreddit is a place to start looking . Reddit actually still has an enormous amount to offer if you look around and look for smaller subs.

Sciency

Your right, reddit used to be amazing. That's actually why I liked voat so much when I first came over. It just reminded me so much of what reddit should/could have been. I used that site from 2007-2015, and I just can't bring myself to go there for reasons other than research (and no, that's not a euphemism. heh). However, despite the somewhat untarnished quality in some of the small corners, I just don't feel right giving such a pro-censorship business my pageviews.

I don't fault others for using them for their services, its just a personal moral conflict for me.

ocd

I really do not think it is possible for something to grow and maintain the original feel that made it popular . It happens in all areas of life unfortunately.

Sciency

Nah, 10k in a year is pretty mid line, especially if you frequent high traffic subs.

Lobotomy

Oooooooh, you're really sticking it to me now! I'm fucking quaking in my e-boots!

They got me guys! Beam me up, Illumin-Scotty!

TL;DR: k.

Lobotomy

So mad, the most mad.

Also yes I am totally a shill for the ilerminaty u found me i will turn myself into leddit police now you win infinity internet gg.

P.S. I can be hypocritical if I want to, suck a duck dick, faggot.

Lobotomy

dis nigga mad

Lobotomy

All I'm hearing out of this is "boo hoo people are posting things I don't like".

<rant> Look, climate change is a real, actual thing, really, actually happening. Shit, even if you don't believe the facts and data proving that it's happening right before your eyes, the worst thing that could possibly come out of slowing down or preventing its exacerbation is that we put R&D into more efficient vehicles, devices, tools, et al, that contribute less to entropy, and cost less to operate. What a Greek fucking tragedy that must be. Seriously, trying to make the world a less polluted, smoggy, place for yourself and future generations is never a wasted effort. There are people who are born and raised in LA, and have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA that they are surrounded by mountains, due to the low visibility. Am I going to tell you that the government has the right idea for managing the problem? Fuck no they fucking don't, the government is never right about anything, but it wouldn't kill you to put a couple solar panels on your roof.

</rant>

But I digress. Voat is a free speech platform. If you don't like what people say, ignore and move on, instead of letting internet opinions make your butthole clench.

Sciency

Look, I said I wasn't gonna talk science ITT (irony with a username like mine), and I'm gonna stick to that, but I do have something to clarify.

I just want to make sure you understand that my post here has nothing to do with the facts of climate change. This board is full of folks that don't buy the story, and now we have an influx of users from reddit that love to bash on those who question or doubt their beliefs. In certain cases, some users posts are nothing but obvious bait. They are just here to rustle jimmies and take shit in return.

I'm appealing to this community to not engage unless they feel they might have a productive discussion. It was all the senseless arguing and mob censorship that made reddit intolerable, long before they started with the censorship. I don't want to see the users of voat become the right-wing mirror of reddit, and stoop to the same tactics. I want to believe we can be better, but maybe I'm just an idealist at heart.

An echo chamber is no more fun for me than overwhelming opposition. I want to see all the opinions that I can, because I use them to form my own. If people become afraid to post for fear of ridicule, then I may never see or hear valid opinions that may lead to a better understanding of the world.

If you'd like to PM and see what my personal thoughts on climate change are, I'd be more than happy to have a heartfelt discussion with you.

Tb0n3

The problem with reddit is not and was not the userbase. It's all the mods and admins. We have trustworthy admins here that don't take shit from power tripping mods. We're going to be fine.

Empire_of_the_mind

we really prefer to keep boring meta posts such as this confined to a few /v's that we can more easily ignore. If you don't like what someone is posting, click the down arrow and comment that you don't like what they're posting and tell 'em why. This kind of post is not helpful.

B3bomber

You imply those people will listen. They have shit they wanna push and your opinion won't stand in the way.

ISlooshyYou

If you think the superusers are bad, wait until you see the massive influx of SJW Reddfugees start getting more and more involved on Voat.

Even worse, wait until we get the second wave of Reddfugees, the shills, and there's a ton of them over there start migrating in droves over here.

CelestialPhoenix

Shills can be very easy to detect. Especially if you know their word speak ;)

Hektik

I think the biggest issue would be the SJW refutards coming to Voat and ruining any actual discussion with fee fee posts that have zero logical sense nor researched sources. I would beg to differ that SJW types are shills that purposely drive the narrative into a trainwreck intentionally, I can't see how people are that emotionally sensitive to argue on topics they have no clue about.

Sciency

Yep. It's about to become digg 3.0 up in here.

Empire_of_the_mind

try 8th wave

senpaithatignoresyou

I don't know if this belongs here. this sounds like a problem for v/ideasforvoat

One thing that would fix this, is a "sort by controversial" option for posts. showing the posts with the most up and down voats would help show people both sides of the issue, and prevent important ideas from being buried.

Sciency

Perhaps you're right that this wans't the best sub for my post, though I can't say I have and ideas/solutions to submit that would make my post worthwhile in ideasforvoat.

I do have a suspicion that this is organized by the same people who are payed to control narratives on other sites like reddit. People with upwards of 1,000,000 post/comment points in under a year are clearly working full time, even if they may not be getting payed.

senpaithatignoresyou

someone in v/ideasforvoat suggested the sort by controversial button. Someone else also showed a "least popular" sort option.

Based on your post, i see the merit in both of these options. I think we should be pushing this idea for @atko . This would be an organic way to stop shills.

Sciency

I'm with you on that. Before the last few months, I wouldn't think there was a need for such a tab, but after the last few weeks in particular I've missed that feature from my reddit days (even if reddit's probably isn't a fair representation of "controversial" because of the vote fuzzing).

If someone starts a thread over there let me know, I'd happily stop by and show my support.

Neongreen

Account could be randomly locked between 20k-50k ccp. That would be funny.

Sciency

I'm not sure that would do anything but encourage super users to have even more secondary accounts. That would make them a lot harder to monitor, even though it probably already happens.
