My first thought was of this: TV Tropes .

Using biometrics rather than a changable number etc opens a big can of worms. This article seems to imply we may not have a choice to not use biometric identifiers some day.

Biometrics are great for a username-style identitification application:

  1. Everybody has them
  2. They are all unique
  3. They cannot be changed

It will always be possible for people to steal identities regardless of the mechanism used ( because identities must be shared, not secret, in order to be useful ), and biometrics are no exception. However, they will make it more difficult for someone to misrepresent or conceal their own identity, for better or for worse.

Biometrics, which cannot truly be kept secret if the person ever goes out into the world, should not be used as the secret to allow access to any systems. Fingerprint readers on phones, retina scanners, et. al., are mis-applications of biometrics.

better not throw away any band-aids or plastic bottles. These are just 2 items to pick from your trash and extract unique 'DNA' or 'fingerprints'
