It was not an accident. No person who spends as little 3 hours studying the matter can honestly believe it was.

I am frankly a bit surprised that you would repeat this lie.

Well I spent about 8 hours on it, and I lean toward it not being an accident but it happened almost 50 years ago. I think it is still up for debate.

I know right? They claim they thought it was a ship roughly half the size. Just more israel lies.

Nationalist

Seems like there's a good bit on controversy on whether it was or not. Check out the Wikipedia page.

International_Local

The Wikipedia page says that Israel paid millions of US dollars in compensations. Not something usual when it's an accident.

Seeing how this attack took place during the Yom Kippur War and we needed Israel to continue fighting then Egyptian President Nasser for the sake of American interests being achieved, it is no surprise that this was covered up.

This is really when America began pushing for the unfounded and unconditional support for Israel, regardless of the atrocities they continually commit. The indoctrination toward blind Israel support was too fresh in 1968 for it to be tarnished by this attack, hence the cover-up.

It's a mutual relationship... they act as our extended hand in the middle east and we award them with our support (with money, arms, and words) despite the conflicting opinions of practically every other member of the international community.

redikulous

Seems like we're paying a heavy price for "an extended hand in the middle east".
