The student loan crisis is a nice hot topic lately. No one knows what to do about it. Yet it seems very stupid for the government to take control of a series of loans that have no way to be repaid.

Or is it?

The government funds the schools, and now they fund the students. They are in a perfect position with all the under employed students to take full control over the university system. They simply have to say "the university system has failed in its mission to properly educate students for the future, we need to take over"

They then get to determine what gets taught, who it gets taught to, and what industries can get the first pick of interns.

Having complete control over the university system will allow a political party in charge to remove any contrasting view points from the universities. It will also ensure that their political philosophy is subtly mainstream.

The best and easiest way to achieve this, would be by creating an artificial loan crisis. I suspect that they will do this next year, and that is why we have two unpopular candidates running for office. The president gets blamed, and congress can enact a program to "solve" the loan crisis by taking over the university system.

For what it's worth, I think you're on to something there, chief. Creating a pool of young, loud, not-so-intelligent, gullible, and indebted idiots who have no concept of independence, self-defense through arms and forward thinking is a surefire way of prolonging the status quo and further entrenching the powers that be .

I suspect they want/need more control

I also suspect that the situation is hitting critical mass.

The current system is 30 years behind. The soft science kids are worthless in society now. But the stem and business kids are too rational, too independent.

So my hunch is that they will shrink the history, English and other miscellaneous programs down and try to make everyone a stem, business or vocational major.

The problem with that program, is the people that they need make twice as much as the pay grades that they are offering.

The degree inflation in the US is that bad.
