Its easy to say whatever will likely spare you execution, but captured troops in the coup said they were commanded on a military operation and were not told that they were part of any coup. Its worth considering the coup could have been engineered as a false flag pretext for assuming totalitarian control like this. I still think its unlikely.

That's exactly what I think it was. Erdogan planned it in order to capture and kill his alleged enemies and garner more control for himself.

He said on Saturday , "the coup was “a gift from God” because it would allow him now to “cleanse the army”"

At the same time, he could just just be turning this event into an opportunity to purge the military, who are his biggest threat since he wants to build an islamic state hes the Caliph of. Hes crazy and corrupt. It might not be a planned false flag though. Ataturk is still spinning in his grave now whatever.

Ever notice that when Muslim or African countries do something like this (be it a coup, high-level corruption, or a conspiracy - anything intriguing), it's like it's the kids' version? Not that it's not horrible and, to some degree, effective, but it just so often really transparent and naive-looking.

Is it that they're just not very good at stuff like that, or they just don't care who finds out?

I knew this was too good to be true. Grab the popcorn and wait for the pogroms to start in 3... 2... 1...
