So when I'm accused of being a Truther with a negative connotation, it makes me laugh uncontrollably. Because apparently in 2014 we live in a society that will demonize the attempt to find the truth!! As if the truth is a negative thing, as if Government lies are vastly superior to truth! its UNREAL and incredibly Orwellian. Personally I embrace the truth, wherever it will take me, and i wear Truther as a badge of HONOR

The word 'truther' to me has the same demeanor as 'tin foil hat' does. It marginalizes someones thought process simply because they don't follow, undoubtedly, the official governments report on the chronological events of September 11th, 2001.

It's like criticizing Israel's foreign policy and being labeled 'anti-semitic.' Or arguing towards some sort of border reform and immigration policy and suddenly you're racist.

It's understandable though - one of the best ways to overcome adversity is to make it (the fallacy) so apparent that it becomes obvious.

In other words, I like your style.

It's insane, just says we are living in insane times where the sane are demonized and the insane thrive freely.

We call someone "entitled" when we espouse the opinion that one is arrogantly asserting that they deserve something which they in fact do not, even though entitlement originally meant that they ARE owed.

Likewise, an individual will call someone a truther for ironic reasons.

Not saying I agree with them, but just stating the rationale in question.

They call you a "truther" because they believe you do not seek what is true, but what you either wish were true, or are afraid of being true. "Truth" instead of facts.

Truth, after all, is more of a philosophical concept. Truth is a value assigned to data that aligns with observation. Truth doesn't exist without abstraction and the ability to relate abstraction to empiricism. You would be nobler for the pursuit of empirical observation and thorough, consistent, transparent documentation... but that doesn't roll off the tongue like truth does.

I was called a Truther once - well, I was called a 'Conspiracy Theorist' but what she meant was the colloquial Truther label. I replied that "while you may label me a truther or conspiracy theorist - I am merely a critical thinker who digests information from a variety of sources and uses my thinking skills to determine what is most likely the truth, and proceed from there."

She looked at me with dead, cow-like eyes and that was that. I don't think she was expecting that kind of response - and I wish more of us had that in their pocket.

I feel the lack of critical thinking skills emphasized in childhood and early-adult education is a huge problem and a prime area for focus in the coming years - and should be one of our primary focuses in the 'truth' movement going forward.

Appreciate the post! and in regards to critical thinking, i am 100% on board with you. You point out a very important issue, that Critical thinking is completely mislabeled.

It is important to note that the function of criticizing information in which you act upon, has be touted under many negative names, and titles. This is but the first step in convincing people that "critical thinking" actually means accepting anything an established authority pronounces truth. which is the basis for all tyranny.

I've found that the "rabbit hole" reference is more appropriately attributed to people living in the wonderland of "our" media.

We have come out of the crazy world in the rabbit hole, and can see the realities previously hidden.

I cant find any etymology for it, but I believe that the term was first used by individuals in support of the "truth movement" as a term to describe themselves.

Then the rest of the world rolled their eyes at the irony of the word and started using it to describe them also.

I feel that "faither" works best if someone has the need to call someone a truther. it gets the point across well, as I've seen from it's use on Reddit.

Exactly, and there are certainly both liars and deniers involved in that spread. Which is why, out of ambiguity, I usually speak to them as though they are the latter, rather than the "horses mouth" so to speak.
