Dysnomia

That's not even their responsibility, much less their right.

Are you huffing fumes or something?

Dysnomia

Cops are begging to get shot, strutting around in uniforms with guns and menacing the general population by enforcing a legal code that's about as far away from natural morality as an (insert trending pop star) concert.

They probably were afraid for their lives, and rightfully so, for what goes around comes around. Hopefully they all quit.

Devildetails

Ditto. If he shot a bunch of people the thought would be "why was no one monitoring as a man with a rifle walked through a large crowd?"

toobaditworks

So much for freedom.

You honestly think somebody could walk into a CROWD of cops (look around, there were tons) should just be allowed to wander around with a gun?

uh, ya.

I mean can you even grasp the anti-cop mindset that exists in the US at the moment? Those cops were probably afraid for their lives.

If they can't handle being a cop then they probably shouldn't be.

frankenham

So not breaking the law is a good enough reason to track somebody around town now?

Teflon-jersey

Have you heard of the NSA? They are doing what you just said.

frankenham

Last I checked it was a right to carry a gun

neveragainfatty

You don't have a right not to be closely supervised while in public.

Devildetails

Yup that's right, monitoring the actions of a person capable of doing harm is sort of in their wheelhouse, especially on high profile events with large numbers of people. They can't frisk him per Terry v. Ohio, but they can sure as hell watch him.

neveragainfatty

When asked I always let the police search me while carrying. It instantly defuses the situation every single time. They know they are safe and I know that they know this.

Devildetails

As a former (reformed) attorney, I hate that.

neveragainfatty

I do as well, but as an intelligent human creature I understand the desire to protect yourself and have a desire to continue living. So I acquiesce. It takes 5 minutes for everyone to continue living, one cop with bad trigger discipline equates to me being corpsified and my family perpetuating without a provider.

redditor1255

It sounds like the police were doing an excellent job.

The police are watching a densely crowded area with a tense atmosphere. Following around the guy with the gun makes a lot of sense. Following the guy with the backpack full of equipment also makes sense.

Sciency

Its pretty obvious that they are indeed tracking the guy with the gun, and the one taking video as well.

While this bothers me deeply, I can't say I really blame cops for keeping an eye on someone with a rifle at a protest. The second amendment protects the right to carry, but I don't think there are any laws regarding profiling, until some action is taken against the subject.

Skip to 5:20:00. That's where it starts. Listen to the police radio.
