get yourself on that watchlist for "howto make rp1 at home"

Wet stools can't melt jelly beans!

So you're telling me that the twin towers did not fall due to fire as the first three examples in history?

oedipusaurus_rex

Jet fuel is basically diesel. Rocket fuel is liquid oxygen mixed with hydrogen usually.

pitenius

Nooo... Jet fuel is OFTEN kerosene, sometimes naphtha. Diesel at FL30 is pretty cloggy!

oedipusaurus_rex

i was under the impression that JP-5 was basically diesel.

GIF-lLL-S0NG

again, as i stated, according to the specs, it is RP1/LOX powered.

pitenius

Might be? I've never experienced anything but Jet-A and Jet-B. Given my experiences with diesel fuel at 20 below, I'll let you fly with it. I'm sticking with smaller molecules.

RP-1 is almost pure kerosene.

zbou

Yes but were they substantially weakened

ZombiesAreNigs

That doesn't explain the liquid pools of steel lingering around ground zero for months.

qzxq

Because they do not use jet fuel to fuel rockets

GIF-lLL-S0NG

the difference being exactly the addition of oxidizer (more heat) to rockets while jet fuels burns in atmospheric gases of 22% O2 78% N2 and rocket uses 99.9% O2.

If SpaceX is good at anything, its learning from their failures.

In this video we see the fireball release of 30k gallons of RP-1 and 39k Gallons of LOX :

Notice that the scaffolding that held the rocket is still standing in the title video, over an hour after the initial event.
