well TIL, but why would those cause an issue, shouldn't they remain off until needed?

There were at least 3 rocket motors stacked up out there. For the non-science types i'll make this simple: rockets are explosions contained enough to point it in a useful direction. Shit goes wrong and goes boom. Hydrazine, which was likely used in on the onboard motor of the payload, a fancy name for the spacecraft, is some nasty shit. So the tank holding the nasty shit just got blown the fuck up. This means the nasty shit is likely all over the place, I would stay back and let it evap, but hey, it's your trip.

RP1-LOX cant melt steel beams.

Pawn

Do they? It looks like even the americans want Russian Rocketry.

Pawn

you're right, if it was going to be an engine failure shouldn't it be near the bottom? I don't know, im not a rocket scientist.

NamelessCrewmember

My man Alopix, keeping it real, telling it like it is.

Hektik

at a quarter speed and reviewing it a few times. It looked like it blew up next to the tower at a disconnect for fueling. Right under the satellite enclosure.

Sciency

Fair enough, I respect your questioning of the events. In my mind, the only people with that tech would be major governments, and only the US (or a close ally) is going to be operating on US soil. This makes me wonder about motivations. Is it possible that space-X is outpacing NASA, and the govt feels threatened by the private industry?

All things considered, I would just expect more subtlety from a sabotage operation, but that doesn't necessarily mean it didn't happen.

GizaDog

I do see flapping (bird flapping) that is.

Sciency

They generally film these things from such a distance that weird things start to happen with objects just outside the focus of the camera. Not saying its not sabotage, but if it is, I somehow doubt the flying dot has much to do with it.

Youre right about the speed part though, I dont think it was a bird. More likely it was a flea sized insect a few feet from the lens, which is why the focus was so off.

Apathy

Believe whatever you want, I'm done here.

MCVoat

Gonna need a frame by frame break down here with 8×10 color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one was to be used as evidence.

When I saw this my first thought was sabotage, then I found out it was carrying an Israeli satellite then I knew, then I see this video and it looks like it was shot with a projectile. Look at the small moment of implosion right before it blows. It was struck right in the payload to ensure destruction.

JohnnyRhino

Its a clear case of american blind justice, and there aint a thing we can do about it....

Apathy

Do you understand how focus works? Here's an example. Notice how the boat is out of focus if you focus on something closer or further away. That's what's happening here.

Apathy

Yes it's closer to the camera. Do you realize how fucking huge rockets that are sent into space are? We're not talking about something the size of a minivan here.

Apathy

Not if the camera is focused on a rocket the size of a 30 story building.

Apathy

Same video you linked, look 10 seconds before the explosion. Two other birds fly on the screen at the exact same speed.

1moar

Holy shit. Replying to yours because slimg is blocked here but youtube is not.

I was able to see it, and what appeared to be a pass by and then on the final one, pow.

Pawn

sometimes shit blows up on the launch pad, that's just rocketry in this century.

Stavon

It was the same last century. Rockets are built to the limit, shit can happen.

Pawn

apparently russian rocketry is the best.

Stavon

Like all Russian technology. You can fix it by kicking it.

jerrykantrell

'bah Russian technology... American technology... all made in China!'

Ben77

and swearing at it, don't forget swearing at it!

Apathy

Because it's a bird.

Never_Over

i disagree, it looks like sort of lens flare. if you crudely pause and play you'll see what i mean.

and that type of projectile would have been known in the area, regardless.

if it was a weapon, it most likely come from space

SeanBox

Link works now. I saw it too. Going inside to look on a bigger screen. Possibly slow it down. Perhaps the concept of the entirety of Africa having internet connectivity all of a sudden doesn't appeal to some people.

SeanBox

I see you've already done that from my desktop where the link now works...wtf?

SeanBox

I heard he was al Qaeda ... Might just be a rumor.
