mrnobu

Of course 4chan is compromised by gov. Just look at all the CP.

EyeCrush

Sorry, but that just isn't true.

Phobos_Mothership

4chan is what everyone assumes is anonymous, so naturally TPTB would want it compromised.

Just like all the TOR exit nodes are compromised, and yet the media claims TOR is actually secure (pretending they can't access TOR chat and such)

djsumdog

You can't have an anonymous network without opening it up. Otherwise if something comes from a tor node, you'd know it's the CIA, NSA or other US defence agency. Attacking Tor occasionally is also pretty important to maintain the illusion it's an unfettered network:

http://fightthefuture.org/articles/the-battle-of-tor/

DieHund

I've been hearing 4chan is compromised for the last 8 years.

NiklausTheNaked

Perhaps everything in common use today, but not everything . If we had a network of nodes/gateways that were synchronized (all sending requests/replies at the same time), and those messages were always padded to a certain length, I think that would thwart any sort of traffic analysis.

1moar

Yep. Add to that the Intel chips being backdoored, and any other surveillance that we know is already underway...leaves little room for error.

Empire_of_the_mind

duh? everyone knows this.

Turnip_Time

You're kinda late to the party, aren't you? They've been "compromised" for at least two years.

Marijuana_Merlin

4 chan has been compromised for a long time, hence GamerGate wound up on 8Chan instead.

greycloud

so you are saying that you are opposed to either cheeze pizza or chocolate milk, that you mentioned this in 4chan and expected not to get banned? why don't you go trying to post some nazi shit on the jerusalem post and see if they are compromised?

Tbear05

The Onion Router..... (TOR)

piratse

LOL dude they have been "compromised" since forever. Moot worked with the FBI a few times in the past. People have been arrested for posting threats (shooting schools, bombing football stadiums etc). He was banning people left and right during gamer gate. Now it's owned by someone who just wants to make money. 4chan is the myspace of chans now. It hasn't been "underground l33t haxorz" since like 2008.

Sciency

A mod was banning users on /pol/ a few weeks back for mentioning the name of a CTR employee. Such things happened before then as well.

4chan has been pretty broken since moot left. 4chan got its emperor pao.

hwong

No I seem to remember that the US state department/Navy help develop TOR for rebels and dissidence in 3rd world countries to not get in trouble with their governemtns. Not sure if that info has been scrubbed of the Inet but that was absolutely the word, just a few years back.

1moar

Interesting, offers plausible deniability of sorts.

toobaditworks

TOR = The Onion Routing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tor_(anonymity_network)

The core principle of Tor, "onion routing", was developed in the mid-1990s by United States Naval Research Laboratory employees, mathematician Paul Syverson and computer scientists Michael G. Reed and David Goldschlag, with the purpose of protecting U.S. intelligence communications online. Onion routing was further developed by DARPA in 1997.[18][19][20]

The alpha version of Tor, developed by Syverson and computer scientists Roger Dingledine and Nick Mathewson[21] and then called The Onion Routing project, or TOR project, launched on 20 September 2002.[1][22] The first public release occurred a year later.[23] On 13 August 2004, Syverson, Dingledine and Mathewson presented "Tor: The Second-Generation Onion Router" at the 13th USENIX Security Symposium.[24] In 2004, the Naval Research Laboratory released the code for Tor under a free license, and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) began funding Dingledine and Mathewson to continue its development.[21]

Aged

You fool. It's compromised for two years. The Zoe Quinn scandal was fully suppressed by moot.

Tallest_Skil

Yes, two years ago. Step it the fuck up.

1moar

Yep.

Consider my above statements, and that power is never relinquished. They have had over 50 years to design this all and backdoor literally everything from layer 7, down through layer 3.

Since switches are layer 2, and generally function just fine without an ios(layer7), why do we now have layer 3 switching?

They're trying to cover every possible contingency.

Transport protocols are interesting though, as is encryption...but if I'm already watching you as a person, I already have mass amounts of data on you and can reliably predict quite a bit.

Secus

moot sold out years ago. Half Chan has been shit since.

loneIy_jew

Yea /pol is just a place to take out your anger and hatred.

8chan is where the real investigations take place

ChairmanCongFuckPao

It's been for a while. It's not called cuckchan for nothing

frankenmine

m00t, 4chan's founder and longtime owner, modded a bunch of SJWs a couple of months after the GamerGate scandal broke, told them to wipe any mention of GamerGate from the site, and announced his retirement from mod duty. At the time, it was thought that a SJW girl he was dating was the cause of this drastic change, but in retrospect, bigger powers may have been responsible. Either way, the site was sold soon afterwards to a Japanese investor, but the SJW mods remain in power, and may be getting their marching orders from someone other than the site owner, who probably only barely understands the subtleties of the culture war motivating this censorship.

1moar

I want to see the ip conx logs for voat. Given the lack of info and consistent downtimes especially since the election, I think (pretty sure of it actually) they/we are being attacked. Only on mobile so I am limited what I can do but I have some tools. I would assume all of the sites like this, reddit, chan&co are all under very heavy surveillance.

GIF-lLL-S0NG

yup

Lag-wagon

Yes, TOR is open source. Yes, people can see what's in there. Who owns the exit servers all along the east and west coast?

d3r

Did you hear about the Bad Religion connection to Pizzagate? I'd look into it more but I don't care enough. One of the members is connected. Was in a 30m long YouTube video about Pizzagate that is trending on Reddit.

Lag-wagon

Nope... I don't watch any of that stuff. I pretty much feel humans are a virus.

d3r

Just thought you'd appreciate it with your love of terrible bands. I like a terrible band called NOFX myself.

Lag-wagon

I like a lot of NoFX.

d3r

Have you heard their racist comedy bit? Gold.

Lag-wagon

I have the longest line, so long and thanks for all the shoes, I heard the sucked live, punk in drublic, heavy petting zoo, s and m airlibes, And have a nofx pandora station.

But I'm not sure what bit you are talking about

d3r

Those are the good albums! My bad, here's a link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sIiJccpVy8

1moar

Let me put it this way - nearly every.single.thing involving the web, encryption, has been created directly, or funded by intelligence agencies. Right down to backdooring Intel chips, Cisco routers, et al.

It would be foolish from an infosec perspective, to ever think you're truly anon.

Edit - a phrase

Islamiscancer

You probably posted something overly faggoty and broke some simple rules, or just made another shitty slide thread when there was already 3 generals running.

Maybe post a screencap of your banned message, or at the very least the thread you tried to start before crapping on that 4chins is compromised.

You just sound like an angry faggot that doesnt understand how 4chan works and you tried to be a cool 4chin kid and got yourself banned.

If its Permanent, suck shit. If its temp, learn from your mistakes..

Either way, this is entirely conjecture without any facts or evidence to support your claim.. faggot

1moar

No, tor does not = 4chan. But people think that using it provides anon, it does not. Anyone relying on that needs to look deeper...imho. Still lots to learn for me.

d3r

Why do we need to be anonymous to fuck the fucking feds? If you have something serious, there's always personal encryption to transmit it.

1moar

I'm just pointing out that no one is truly anon. I would rely more on encryption myself.

Of course, more layers of protection are good, but don't rely on just one if you really want to be anon.

d3r

Agreed that no one is truly anon. It's all in the NSA data center in Utah.

Alois_sticklgruber

Its because you poked the bear, the kiddie porn shit is REAL. Dont you get that, its why they cant afford to have that shit their. THey dont want the heat itll bring.

Its real, if it wasnt theyd let the autists poke and prod until their tendies were cold. But they know its getting bad.

They shouldn't have banned people, know we know.

Lobotomy

You probably got b& for being OP.

1moar

From googling "who created tor browser"...

The core principle of Tor, "onion routing", was developed in the mid-1990s by United States Naval Research Laboratory employees, mathematician Paul Syverson and computer scientists Michael G. Reed and David Goldschlag, with the purpose of protecting U.S. intelligence communications online.

Edit - this is all Military Intelligence. It's all compromised, I would put my left one on it...but I have been wrong many times in the past.

Also per your statements, you are likely right; but let me posit this - Cisco is also a private company, and they're backdoored as fuck.

I also study infosec and work in a large firm, while I am trying to catch up with tech so I still have much to learn, all the time.

1moar

It was right on the tor website itself, if it's not still (I'll look in a sec, on mobile)...I know I saw it numerous times on their website and part of why I never used it. Maybe I'm mistaken though...off I go, here hold my beer...

1moar

I'm sure they were compromised since the start.

Take Tor for example. Developed by the US Navy, yet people still use it thinking they're suddenly anon. Even with a vpn...really? Lol

Consider all sources compromised until proven otherwise, i.e. Wikileaks. Until then, play it safe and don't do dumb.

Superchexx

moot did it for free

sweetholymosiah

Nothing is that simple.

wuzizname

Can you explain why it'd be foolish to rely on a VPN service? How would the men-in-black get around my VPN unless they went to the VPN company and compel them to hand over the IP traffic logs?

1moar

VPN is fine, but by itself, not nearly enough.

wuzizname

I always make sure I've got the latest version of Acrobat installed and that I'm wearing a paper bag on my head.

Seriously, though, I'd appreciate a primer on what else one should be considering or have in place for more privacy online.

1moar

There's a few things to look at, your computer and your router.

Computer - Tor, vpn, and being consistent with your online activities, etc. There's more I'm sure I'm overlooking.

Your router - disable ssid broadcast (your network name), enable wpa2 encryption, change the default password for accessing the admin panel, set up a strong password for accessing your wifi.

You can get deeper with some things depending on your specific model, your overall network needs and whatnot. For instance you can reduce the broadcast range of the wireless, but that's a bit advanced.

I also had a honeypot I set up to spoof my own network settings and capture ip's that try to access your wifi.

That should get you started for now.

frizla

4chan, 8chan, lainchan, all have zero freedom of speech.

As for Tor and Wikileaks, i can't agree with you on that. The way i see it; if "they" are fighting so hard to ban/stop users from using it, it must be working pretty well.

thatguyiam

I don't know about the other chans, but 4ch /pol/ definitely has a strange feel about it now. Going thru the first 3 pages, the submissions look like your run-of-the-mill msm scripted shit. The text doesn't look 4ch authentic it all looks like some old ass seniors write them.

Don't worry, the 4ch autists will find another place... where to be?

edit: it looks like the autists have moved on to 8ch /pol/... now posting the pizzagate info the way 4ch/pol/ used to :)

1moar

I think it's mostly honeypot, but banning gives the impression of a private entity and not intel.

Onlio

So is 8chan. I got banned for posting a photo of Pamela Anderson saying she killed Assange

Deplorable_Me

heh, I can, unfortunately only give you one upvoat.
