No_to_censorship

probably the same people who brought jailbait here in the first place, just to create drama... ignore that bullshit all together

bartroberts

I am not and never was a reddit mod. I like feeling like I belong to a community of people. I love being on all the stupid in jokes ETC... However, if VOAT becomes a cesspool of jailbait and like minded subs, I wont like being a part of this community because it will make me feel creepy.

I dont even mind seeing a picture of a beautiful 16 year old girl in a bikini, I can appreciate that shes beautiful. I just dont want this place to become the place where the lines are blurred because then everyone on the site is labeled a creep. I dont like being labeled a creep.

Also for all the MODS of Jailbait and the like, remember what they did to violentacruz, can you really take CBS news coming into your home and or workplace and telling the world you mod a sub dedicated to oogling young girls. Is it really worth it? Is it worth it for VOAT overall? What happens when the investigations start and Voat needs to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on lawyers to see if something is illegal or not?

I am a huge free speech guy, but VOAT needs to do whatever it is to make VOAT a platform where it succeeds. If that means Jailbait needs to be shut down then so be it. I do not believe that its a big deal. Let Voat do whats right for voat.

More than free speech I left reddit because of the downvote brigades ETC. You couldnt have a normal conversation with a opinion that differs than the herd without getting downvoted to oblivion. I didnt leave because they banned FPH. I kind of agree that FPH constitutes harassment. I dont feel the need to post a picture of a moose and shame him/her. You can trust me they already feel that shame.

Everything you just said was about how you feel, which are feelings you are entirely entitled to have. But the whole idea behind voat is that it is a place for people to discuss topics that they want, as long as it is legal. It is easily avoidable. Did you feel like a racist on reddit because coontown existed? Or like a Nazi because gasthekikes was around?

Be confident in yourself. You know who you are and what you do or do not like. If people happen to use voat to do weird shit, you know you aren't one of them and anyone that tries to tell you that you are one of them probably has some other reason for doing it.

escapefromredditbay

lol.

arrjayjee

If it's illegal it will be removed.

If it's not illegal but you don't like it, don't go there.

If it's not illegal but being posted in places it doesn't belong, report it.

If you find it difficult to follow these simple rules maybe you need a grown-up to hold your hand while you're on the internet.

  1. /u/Atko 's response on the issue is a mature one: Let authorities decide what is legal vs illegal and Voat will comply with their call . As long as this is the practice, voat will be a responsible bastion of free speech, which is its primary appeal.

  2. Calls for ban of a sub is not the worst thing going on for voat at the moment.

ddd

this makes sense that some reddit user was trying to convince /u/atko to host in the US.... hopefully voat pulls through

Mumberthrax

This is possible, but I think there is a fair amount of evidence supporting an alternative theory: people supporting a ban on /v/jailbait are actually normal voat users who don't want to support child pornography, or don't want voat to have problems due to giving safe harbor to people who trade sexualized images of children. A while back we had a week-long discussion about the notion of /v/beatingwomen and /v/jailbait being squatted on or banned. Feelings on the matter seemed to be divided. Only like, one person participating had ever previously indicated an appreciation of jailbait content.

Full admission of personal bias: I would not be terribly upset if v/jailbait or it's associated subverses were banned. I don't think it is a slippery slope. I think it is sensible, and responsible. So because of this bias, please take what I say with a grain of salt.

Some relevant discussions I dug up. I think there were a few others but I'm not sure where they were:

Empire_of_the_mind

how could the site fail? it doesn't need reddit users.

Empire_of_the_mind

While the presumption may be right, why is "Fracturing the voat community" something that matters? It actually doesn't. If people don't like Voat they can go away. It does not depend on fifty thousand reddit-tards "contributing" and in fact suffers from that. REDDIT cares a lot about user engagement because they're a monetized business. This sort of thinking is very reddit-specific.

battle

Or, we'll just go somewhere else. Another site. All this bullshit is really making me want to go outside.

bartroberts

This is what gets me, I dont want to go outside and its like they are forcing me.

goat_boat

Whatever you do don't go outside! There be dragons!

Buster_Hymen

It's ok I'm the dragon born here to put an end to that

RedHawk

I guess you're right, I mean this site is growing and is the best alternative to reddit at the moment.

mojo4567

By far. I hear cries for 8chan and all I can see is a fast paced shitfest prime for forum sliding and more corruption. Voat may end reddit hopefully

schadenfly

but then what will end voat when voat becomes reddit?

RedHawk

They're chasing ex-reddit users even here ?

BrownMoses

Yes, nothing angers them more than people who escaped the clutches of their social conditioning, so they try to come here and push their agenda.
