The U.S. government brought tons of Nazi's into the country under all sorts of secret programs so this isn't really surprising. There was also Operation Paperclip to bring over 1,500 ( that we know of ) different Nazi scientists into the US to work on some of the highest priority ( and top secret ) defense and aerospace projects among other things.

It wasn't just the United States either. Elements of the British government were embarking on their own little operations, hiding evidence and more. You can also bet your ass that the Russians were doing it and probably a few other nations as well. Even the Vatican was helping in their own way by facilitating Ratlines .

After the war all the major powers wanted to grab the Nazi brain trust. Leading thinkers, people in high ( but not too publicly visible ) positions, etc. A big part of the reason was to fight each other (E.g. U.S. versus U.S.S.R.) at the start of the Cold War but also to keep the Germans from restarting a lot of their own programs and quickly rebuilding their defense capabilities.
