Seeking info on Catholic Church ( conspiracy )

My husband heard on a talk show while driving across country that in the past there had been a vote put forth to excommunicate pedophiles. He doesn't know anything about the show to try to get further info and neither he nor I can find anything. I figured you based goats might know something and can point us to it, if in fact it happened and wasn't heresy. He's a "recovering Catholic" and I'm just curious as a pizzagate part time researcher. Thanks, Harvey. He doesn't have any more details other than it didn't pass the vote. We were curious what stopped it. What with the Catholic church being implicated in the pizzagate, it's an interesting piece of information.
