Trump isn't the first to do this. Stephen Harper did the same thing in Canada a few years back. Fired most of the scientists and muzzled the ones he didn't get rid of from speaking unless they were reading something pre-approved. Harper shut down most of the scientific centers and labs, and caused decades of valuable research to be tossed into dumpsters and destroyed. So far Trump is turning out to be very much like Harper.
