We're bang in the middle of a Maunder Minimum. We've got the lowest levels of solar activity seen in decades. Keep calm, citizens.

I'd like to add a bit more depth to this thread too, so:

Obama signed an executive order for "space weather". If they are trying to hide this from us, they are not doing a good job. WH blog post .

The earth will soon be swept by extraordinary rapid waves of Cosmic Electricity. A few decades from now beings who are bad and lead others astray will not be able to support their intensity.

Title makes it sound like flares are increasing, which as far as I know they're not. This is due to decreasing architecture size, and changing from 2D to 3D transistors.

Although large flares are certainly an issue. Back in the 1800's I think (I forget exactly when) there was a flare so large it set power lines on fire! It didn't cause many problems though because so few things were electronic. A flare of that size now would cripple most of our technology.

Although as creator and mod of /v/luddism (come join us) that doesn't sound like such a bad thing.

You're referring to the Carrington Event, which I believe was 1898 / edit 1859 . Wikipedia has a nice write up on it. When we start seeing "aurora borealis" as far South as California and beyond, we know we're getting a major solar flare event. By then our electronics will be bricked though.

Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) ARE increasing. I'll have to look up the two or three threads on this (will edit later)... here you go . The "ambient energy" levels on earth should be about 7.3 Hertz, spiking up to around 20-30 Hz. However, more recently there have been spikes upwards of 50 Hz. The vast majority of people have no clue this is happening, but in my mind, a major CME event is more likely than an asteroid or another great flood hitting us - given all the energy waves hitting our planet now.

So.. if the size of the transistor package indicates higher failure rate, why does the graph not coincide with that? I realize there are no numbers on the axis for failure rates, however the bottom usually indicates 0 while the top indicates whatever maximum number is designated. The whole conclusion of the article doesn't match the graph.

Fascinting. Crazy to think it's happening I'm small doses and the general public will not be aware until a major error

Just look around you. Life as we know it is drastically changing.

And not for the better.

Ed "Doom" Dames has been covering this for quite awhile. Better find your sanctuary.
