I always think he was responsible for organizing some of the protests of his own events, he loved the protests, they are what propelled him to fame, he would be upset if there was no protest, I don't think he paid the protesters but he had social media groups organize them. Now when the Berkeley Riots happened, his book sales went through the roof like he had never believed, I think he probably wanted to renegotiate a better deal but could not get out of it, so he created a controversy that would get his deal dropped so he could then renegotiate a better deal. Milo has thrived on scandal, he has stated he believes this current scandal will propel his career further. Milo always struck me as an opportunist not an idealist, he finds a niche and exploits it for gain, I don't think he is entirely sincere in his professed beliefs. I also think he is maneuvering himself into a position to be the next David Brock, a turn coat.
