Technically nobody is allowed in Antarctica except for scientific research. Low and behold, there are thousands of "scientists" there. In 30 years the continent will be open for colonization.

Some areas are hypothesized to contain ten of millions ounces of gold.

There is interest in life down there, and its applications to various industries: pharmaceuticals , bio-weapons, etc
