Yeah, I hate to say it, but my 1/2 siblings were home schooled and they are math and science illiterate. My step mom couldn't understand pi r 2 , so she asked me to explain it to them. They just kept asking me for the answer. I assume their teacher(mom) was just looking at the answer key and feeding them solutions. Kids deserve a proper education. Unfortunately mom does not always know best.

At the same time, I have met brilliant home school students that thrive in the environment. Given the disparity in home school education, I think there should be some oversight.(even if this is not the right way to do it)

I'd be more in favor of parents having to take a competency test than this. Public school children are not forced to be interviewed by doctors, police, and other government officials... This is over the top IMO. The parents should be the ones who have to show they are able to teach, government coming in to question children on whether or not mommy and daddy are doing things the way Big Brother approves of is ridiculous.
