I think you are assuming that you know their intentions and motivations. There may have been things in Manhattan that they concerned themselves with. Have you ever considered to stop over reaching with your assumptions.

Don't assume that you know when the buildings were set to blow or that they blew "prematurely". You don't know when they wanted it to blow or if they cared if anyone got hurt or killed.

It was a huge, massive magic show that had many things that could go wrong.
