once upon a time pedophilia described a disorder that was based solely on sexual attraction. their was also a crime called child molestation or child rape. pedophilia did not imply child molestation although it did raise the likelihood.

within the medical context, pedophilia is to child molestation as heterosexuality is to rape. however, due to the nature of attraction to people who legally cannot consent to sex is by itself a disorder, and thus pedophilia is a disorder and not a crime.
