USE YOUR DOWNVOTES ( conspiracy )

Several days ago, I noticed a slew of posts that where complaining about negative votes. I have also noticed some members with excessively huge points here yet have only been a member for a limited time. This means one of two things, A/ there are some real no-lifers here, or 2/ that the paid shills are working over-time to get points to try and beat the voting system here.

PLEASE USE YOUR DOWNVOTES. basically, if there are obvious undesirables here, VOAT has given us the ability to diminish their influence. Do not feel that it is somehow socially bad to downvote someone. the button is there, use it for the greater good. :)

Edit: Aaaw, and the shills feefee's have been hurt, the downvote brigade has started. lol. like I actually care. I personally love the attention and wish we could have a downvote total attached to our profile. because downvotes do not hurt me, but they do hurt the shills ability to function. :)

Sometimes I wish I could downvote, but at the same time I'd hate to downvote someone JUST because they have a differing opinion than me... I'd definitely downvote obvious trolls, and I'd make a tough decision on shills but damn...

Well the problem is the equation is slightly out of balance a "down vote" has consequences with no "cost" it should minus your CCP score and when under 100 again no down votes again.

Its is a fallacy to believe "up votes" and "down votes" are equal an up vote is a free will act here is how it works:

  • you can up vote or
  • you can do nothing

That is a balance, the down vote throws it OUT of balance, but is still good to have as a limited "stop gap" or "break" on flow.

But it should have a cost, because if it does not it throws the balance out.

What do you think of the idea of only allowing downvotes (and maybe upvotes also) When you have posted a response. And you can only up/down vote that particular comment. Also, to up/down vote an article, you should at least have to of made one post in it. Ideas?

If you ever feel you've been unfairly targeted for downvoats or have been the victim of brigading, reducing your CCP to the point where you can barely contribute to voat, come and post in /v/pleadyourcase where the community can review your contribution objectively and (if warranted) rectify the situation.

Also if you want to su scribe and be ready to help others in the same situation, please do.

At this point I do not think it is flawed. (well, every system has flaws) What it is designed to do is to try and limit shills activity (by limiting their spam ability) and also to limit cross contamination of subs. for example, If I went to a tumbler sub and criticized HAES, then i would get smacked and that would affect my ability to do things here. So i would at least think twice about making erroneous comments. It also stops all that problem with creating throwaways. Ultimately, keep chatting away in subs you like, you will gain your points. :)

I agree with your post to an extent but the other day my CCP basically doubled just from being a part of the PayPal drama. Just saying. I have been one of those members calling for the end of the downvoat but I have very much reconsidered since first thinking that it would be a good idea. I don't downvoat personally, well I haven't been but I must say that its getting harder not to sometimes these days.

This is absolutely solid advice. This doesn't mean we should be downvoting people just because they hold an opinion different from our own, but downvotes when used judiciously are a responsible part of helping to moderate our community.
