If you're NASA and you have psychological profiles of every astronaut and can figure out who is mentally pliable and willing to speak, it's not hard to fake some evidence, get "military top brass" to contact them about "the aliens", and ultimately distract people when these guys go public.

This keeps a large portion of "conspiracy theorists" focused on kids fantasy stories, and the rest of them are smeared by association.

Take Alex Jones as an example. Whether he is a controlled shill or not, the corporate media can dismiss anything he says by playing UFO noises in the background of reports about him and smear him by association even though his show is entirely real world politics/news/culture/business stuff and supplement ads and literally never talks about this kind of fantasy stuff.
