Why the fuck would you consider California the land of the free? If I was looking to buy and set up a farm California would be the last state I set up in. This guy was probably trying to make $ avoid taxes and be a cheap ass. California doesnt play that.

The word seasonal is used. To me that would be standing water in the spring. Around my area there has been a lot of yapping by the state about wetlands when it is standing water from heavy rains. It disappears in a few weeks.

he discharged 450 acres of plow runoff into a creek that fed a wetlands. This isn't a case of impeding a farmer, this is a farmer carelessly dumping his shit in a protected environment that he knew was protected when he moved in and then getting pissed when the government protects that land.

He moved into a protected area and dumped on the protected part. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

There is always more to the story... I avoided looking at this one all morning, but I had a feeling there was more to it than just the headline.

Bitchybadger

I am sure he did not plow right next to a creek. He failed to bow so they are fucking him.

Bitchybadger

Seasonal wetlands is a giant fucking mud puddle or ditch. If he planted wheat near a creek, it is a buffer against run off. Shit people have gotten in deep shit for putting a pond on their property.

Precisely this. What I want to know is, were the wetlands there when he bought the land? If so, why didn't he (or the real estate agent he was working with) hire a competent surveyor? If I'm buying a 450-acre plot of land, I'm not putting down one red cent until I see a survey map -- and if part of the survey says "FEDERAL PROTECTED WETLANDS", that sets off big alarm bells in my head. I ain't having it. I don't want Fedcoats on my land, period; especially not with that prepackaged "endangered wetlands species" excuse. Let's find another plot.

Nobody did their due diligence here.
