Knowers, Believers, Ignorers... Knowers create the beliefs, Believers elevate Ignorers towards the beliefs, towards the love of life. If the Knowers mislead the Believers, political tyranny prevails. Historical invariant. As far as we're concerned here (and here only), there is no god but in our idiosyncrasies, the spiritual tripartition of mankind is sufficient to explain our History and social constructs (once you understand it)

For Believers, which make up the bulk of the cults you mentioned, sure, but for the few Knowers behind, it's just manipulation and concealment, they can keep their shit up real long while people blame imaginary things, or Believers' beliefs, or systems, or races, or classes, or coincidence, or whatever beliefs Knowers throw at them.
