It’s public knowledge that from the point of view of the Pentagon, the United States faces five existential threats: Russia, China, Iran, North Korea and terrorism, in that order.

What bullshit. North Korea is not an "existential threat." Neither is Iran. Neither is terrorism. And neither China nor Russia are actually threatening the United States at present. China and Russia are potential existential threats, but not active threats.
