There is no need for a honeypot, it's much more powerful to manipulate the content and shill away.

Yeah I mean not a whole lot has changed; I guess that's my point. It was just atko and his friend starting this up on their own, trying to create a place for open discussion (withing legal limits) and censorship free subverses. It's a good question, and I would have my doubts as well, but their intentions have been the same since before Reddit went to shit and the great influx.

solzyx

i wouldnt be surprised. and even if it isnt now or wasnt at its inception, there is no guarantee that whatever powers wont see the potential, sweep in, make the admins an offer they cant refuse, and secretly turn it into one.

I think you're reaching if you're calling two triangles, the star of david. If anything, (because they represent V and A), I'm suprised you're not mentioning the masonic compass. Also, if the O and T are the Egyptian cross you're taking about, well that means your username, and mine, are "occult" too for having those letters(and I don't get the vibe you are).

As for the goat, that's certainly your strongest point, but I'd imagine goat and vote rhymed well enough to make the marketing choice an obvious one for Voat.

If anything, reddit was a honeypot.

Fact is, a honey pot is used to catch someone doing something wrong. Seeking an outlet that doesn't censor our views is not illegal, therefore...

sodaphish

so... are you asserting that VOAT is somehow tied to the occult? the NWO? Not sure what you're getting at.

Stargaryen

Newbie here. What has changed since March?

shmegegy

honeypots are targeted at individuals

plumsound

I've been with the site since it was "Whoaverse", about a year and a half ago. Atko and co. have been at it and keeping us updated the entire time; there's no stopping you from looking up their post history and the site's brief history.

the net is a net, all of it, the web is a web and you are not the spider

k_digi

What was the "Blog-spot" thing about?

anyone.

i can confirm i also go euthanized.

hacker2

It's true! I registered on Voat, and then I got euthanized!

I got better....

MannDude

If it was/is a honey pot I'd like to think 'they' would have better resources to keep this site online in the face of high traffic and DDoS attacks. Atko wouldn't need to request for donations and the development of the site (up until recently) wouldn't have been as slow moving as it was. If it was a honey pot 'they' would have a team of coders getting this shit rock-solid.

Just my $0.02. I don't think there is anything nefarious to be concerned about but I don't know. Maybe there is.

Sometimes the govt doesn't have to make an event happen just to profit from the event. E.g., Russia wasn't behind 9/11 but gets to use it and fighting terrorisms as an excuse for tightening their human rights violations in Chechnya. So too, the international intelligence communities don't have to make a honeypot like twitter, facebook, reddit, or voat, to benefit from archiving everything posted at every site.

BeerBaron

I just assume any website I connect to is co-opted and everything I type will be preserved in some database and added to my agency file. It's part of living in the New Internet Age.

I wonder if /u/atko would have any insight into any of this.
