Credit card - means that you give credit. Instead the banks made it a debit card. Bank lends you money.

Debit card - means that you have debt. Instead the banks made it a credit card. You lend banks money.

The banks have inverted the opposite meanings for both cards by calling them the opposite way.

This is an obvious psychological trick to fool customers. People obviously prefer credit over debit.
