Not just the press, but the public in general. Family, co-workers, friends, everyone. Because no-one was exposed to a different viewpoint.

Everyone was for meddling in the middle east (to save people), no one stopped to think about why.

We heard the theory "it was for oil", but one assumes an intention of physically taking the oil for themselves. Not about enforcing the US petrodollar.
