All the hype re Tavistock, Esalen, 60s Rock, Aldous Huxley etc. originated (as far as I can tell) from Lyndon LaRouche & his Dope Inc. book, same started as a far Left-winger who later switched to conservative Right-winger & subject to various cult/conspiracy theories himself.

This theory has now morphed several generations & accepted as gospel in several conspiracy genres without much critical analysis and deserves deeper scrutiny on its own.

The precedence for this type expose was likely None Dare Call It Conspiracy, an earlier John Birch Society tract that might be the grandaddy of modern NWO conspiracy theory, and an interesting read.

Ironically 60s Rock produced some of the best music that century barring a few groups that don't suit some critic's tastes.

There has also been a continuous parallel claim by Religious Right groups that Rock & Roll was "the Devil's music" going back to the founders like Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis & their offshoot Elvis in the 40s & 50s.

To show how convoluted these theories get you have Dope Inc. blaming Jews, the Birchers blaming Communist Russians, the Religious Right blaming Satanists while supporting Israel, etc..

Pedo Roy Cohn who some disparage as Trump's mentor was part of an apparatus to out many in Hollywood, intellectuals & liberals as Communists when that was the prevailing paranoia of the day, but at the same time many top Nazis had been brought into America as part of the Capitalist agenda against Communism, while enabling the horrors of MKULTRA & sex blackmail of US politicians with minors.

Another irony among intellectual types that did the psychedelics around Esalen & Huxley there was much sympathy for the Countercultural idea of the effect of deprogramming Western civilization's propaganda & opening to Eastern & other cultural takes on philosophy & religion. This of course rankles fundamentalist conservative types but the culture of the latter leaves something to be desired.

Not taking sides on the matter but can see where certain paranoid memes take a life of their own & become fundamentalist reality filters.

I've wondered about the grateful dead, I know Phil and Bob have both been to bohemian Grove. And all of the "acid tests" they where associated with, probably some crazy mkultra shit. Although I still like their music.
