Far cry from detaining a Citizen on US soil and not allowing them due process. This guy was trying to overthrow a foreign government. If we weren't diagramming his command structure we would have just left him to the Syrians - and he would have been tortured and murdered already.

Good article to discuss. Bad precedent for the US. But I don't pity him.

First of all, that is under the assumption that what the government is telling us is true, which history has reveled that it USUALLY isn't, and second, there are many close to this case, including the ACLU, claiming they are getting reports that he was possibly there as an independent journalist, which adds an entire new layer to this, knowing how badly the Deep State wants to label all alt media "extremists." we don't know is the point, and they are refusing to let the ACLU talk to him, which is very odd. And ultimately, he is an American, so he has the same right as anyone, regardless of his crime, and regardless of how offensive I personally find that crime. To say otherwise is signing away your rights to the whim of the deep state. Because history has also shown us just how far the government will bend any law or regulation to suit its agenda. Maybe you will be the next "collaborator" because of a misunderstood FB post.. just around the corner. If the man is guilty, let a jury of his peers decide, as is his right. If he did what they are claiming, I doubt few would be ok with it, just as we are so very offended.
