I still use a 4 with no problems. I only talk, txt and use the wifi though.

I’m fine with planned obsolescence, but don’t make it impossible to repair it and force consumers to take it to specialized shops.

I’ve been using an iPhone 6s Plus and honestly I can keep using it because I’m not having issues. I think Apple does a pretty good job of keeping old products usable they don’t even need to keep updating them.

If there was any other platform that was better, I’d use it. Unfortunately they still have the best running products. I know this because the wife has gone back and forth every couple years. I admit there is some bullshit that comes with it.

How to keep an iPhone 4 in perfect condition.

Step 1: don’t update

Step 2: turn off cellular data, Bluetooth, WiFi if you’re not using it, and location services.

Step 3: buy a otter box for it

Step 4: don’t buy music from itunes. In fact, download the songs you want to hear from jewtube by using 2conv or download them straight from hooktube.

If you think about it, that's why a company like Go-Pro is not really a profitable business structure. They have designed a product that is extremely rugged and not meant to break. Granted they may make new and "improved" models, but if you are satisfied with the quality of the old one there is no incentive to buy a "new" model. They assumed everyone was just going to buy the next model of they were happy with they old, but if there was nothing really wrong with the old why replace it. In approximately six years they did transform the hand-held video market but their market value and profits have dwindled.

But why to trust google on your data

This is why I turn off auto-updates on everything I own.

Nobody forced you to buy an iPhone to begin with. You want to sink into the manly top arms of Apple, expect to be their bottom bitch.

Ever notice that fiction writers do the same thing? They write the same novel over and over with a new cover and title. People gobble them up!

Part of the reason being is security and malware detection. If hackers didn't want your info the software updates wouldn't have to be so intense.

I used to work in the tech industry and this is absolutely true. We have billion dollar factories around the world and we need to keep manufacturing new units or there'd be no work. Consumers don't want to pay more for a quality product, instead it's easier to sell current trends to them as their attention span is very short.

For me, I go 3-4 years on the same phone doing a monthly cleaning. I'm not big on social media and the primary purpose of a phone is productive communication not narcissistic vanity. However, that's not how our bread-and-butter primary consumer thinks and behaves.

the true reason why this works is the capitalistic mindset. you gotta work hard all day and when you come home you are too weak to do something useful or think but you have a shit ton of money to get rid of to the point they get afraid life choices were not the best. to get rid of that thought you have to, like you deal with all problems, drown it with money, best by buying something shiny that makes you feel better than the rest.

the real problem is that people have too much money. not because of being super rich but because of a lack of purpose and time to think of something useful.

It's legal because at the end of the day, the consumer has a choice of which phone they want to use.

If you're dumb enough to fall for the apple hype, than you deserve everything you get.

Why anyone would update anything when it's already working fine is beyond me. Does it make calls? Does the internet work? Does it not freeze? Is it already fast? What need do you have to update?

They seem to offer the worst value for the money and their users seem proud of that fact.

Almost all things you buy are engineered to be made as cheaply as possible... some are designed to break after a specified period. Apple is artificially doing this with software updates when they decide to. I also suspect other device manufacturers of doing the same thing.

T-Mobile has done this. They re-purposed all their radio towers by turning off 3G and HSPA/HSPA+ radios. Now everyone on T-Mobile using a phone that doesn't have an LTE 4G radio is forced to Edge speeds.

The FCC is about to obsolete every TV ever made again by changing over to a different incompatible broadcast system. Didn't they just do that in 2009? Hang on to your wallets. Hold off buying that new TV.

After selling a few million ipods, Apple realized that real profits are made selling crap to idiots, and abandoned any intelligent customer base they had.

Do they make any claims about the longevity of the product?

The laws on how to do business generally just state that you can not promise anything that is not fulfilled, but only in specific cases do they make specific demands of the product - such as only a certain amount of certain substances can be in anything that is used as food.

Because that's what we need... more government intervention, more government regulation. Gotta protect all of those dummies from themselves. Can't have people making choices for themselves. Particularly if they are choices I disagree with.

I don't understand why people say that apple is shit. I had a MacBook Pro when I was in elementary for robotics, now I'm in high school, and it works perfectly fine (my brother uses it now).

I've smashed mine long before it becomes obsolete!
