Maybe it's the lizard people trying to invade our society. IDK. I don't have regular access to children books so I haven't seen what you mean. I would just guess that the authors found all of those things fascinating when they were children and they thought it would have common appeal since that's their audience.

Well I believe the moon landing happened. For #4 my thought is that since studies have found a correlation between lunar phases and our moods. That may lead to a focused sense of respect towards "worshiping" the moon. I dunno I just like these sorts of ideas! :-)
