The problem is the ignorance of your average person. Most of humanity are peasants: they do not understand how their car works, they do not understand how their plumbing works, they do not know what is in their food, and they do not know how the computer works or what it is doing. They are peasants who think they are kings.

the internet is a network of networks, it is not really centralized, and most of the communications that occur are done between automated processes. The real problem is that there are gatekeepers to the content that people want to see, or would be interested in. That is the real problem here. Those gate keepers are what is causing stagnation. the net neutrality law was made to give those gatekeepers more power. Now that they are gone, the ISPS will have more control. 20 years ago this would have been a dangerous thing, but now that 4g and 5g are popping up, there is more competition now then ever.
