Bingo. Especially when you consider how easy it is to VPN your way to a foreign IP. Between VPNs, and norse honey-pots, neither attack origin or target are necessarily valid info.

I do however believe that in the event of a grand-scale cyber attack, you'd see a massive spike in "stupid attacks" (ssh, ddos, ect) carried out by botnets, even on the norse site. At that point though (in this cyber-doomsday scenario), you could probably look out your window and see the results irl.

Thank you I saw this and was not understanding why the attacks were aimed for STL

god404d

Their main office is in STL from what I've heard. They have nodes set up around the world, but most in their building. At least that's what I've read in other threads about Norse, never really looked into it.

Charlie_Prime

To receive help, you need to specify what about the "pew pew pew" Norse map you don't understand.

Bainshie

Rather simply: Cyber warfare is the new battle ground, and everyone is doing it.The vast majority of the time it's an attempt to gain a economic advantage for whatever country is doing it.

they made the equipment and want to make sure they still OWN it

COUSCOUS

what cyber attacks?

Sciency

Norse map has been lighting up with (admittedly small scale) attacks on clone-devices and addresses they have laid out on their St. Louis servers.

Attacks are larger in number than normal, but norse map isn't going to tell you anything that you wouldn't hear from the MSM.

The take away here is that one site is showing a lot of low-skill attacks coming out of china.

COUSCOUS

I was referring to this being norse maps. A quite unreliable information source. Do not believe all the shiny lights on the internet.

apt

this is a map of attacks against honeypots set up by norsecorp, it's virtually meaningless and really just makes for a pretty visualization.

there's not much substance to what's occuring, e.g. one of the things qualifying as a "hack" is if someone tries to log into ssh on one of their honeypots.

Loop_

This is nothing near the real amount of traffic attacks that happen, but if you want to know it's because China has some of the worlds biggest web scrappers and monitoring networks. In general they are a untrustworthy source of traffic. Most are collecting data or attacking other networks to bring them down.
