Anything you have to pay a yearly fee for or have taken away from you (property taxes) and have to ask permission to do anything to (building permits and zoning violations) is not something you own, it's something you're borrowing.

Nice try. If someone else moves into my home, they won't last long and my ownership and right to remove them as I see fit is verifiable. Being taxed and paying for utilities doesn't negate ownership. Nothing is free. Renting is borrowing, and costs far more over time.

This is just not true. "Squatter's Rights" are a thing in many places in this country. Furthermore if you let someone (say a girlfriend or roommate) live with you for 30 days you cannot legally remove them without evicting them.

And if you can't build a deck or finish your basement without a permit to do so from m'lord, and if this thing you own can be taken away from you for not paying m'lord, then you don't own it.
