In a way. Years of psychological torture, probably from birth. If you've seen the info on Monarch and the MKUltra files (especially the juicy stuff, floating around the dark corners of the internet), then it's hard to imagine them having any other default look than, "O_O". Literally forced in to multiple, triggerable, disassociative states— repeatedly, endlessly, living through the most horrific shit, to push people beyond the threshold of sanity.

Eventually, the mind elicits a type of self-defense mechanism where it partitions itself, in to different personalities, that can be "brought out" with specific trigger words. Each personality has no idea that the others exist. I believe that this "blank stare" look is somewhere in the middle. The "true self", that's been chipped away at— to the point that there's almost nothing left.

It's the look of someone who's frantically searching through what little bits of their mind are accessible, trying to figure out just what the fuck is going on . Freaky shit.
