This is a horribly written article with very little credible research. They make a LOT of assumptions based on dodgy facts and sometimes a complete lack of facts. The first issue I have with the article is that Bishop Accountability is one of their primary sources, knowing full well that it's a website that logs any potential allegation, not necessarily credible ones. And those that are deemed not true are never removed. The second issue I have with the article is they are equating the large cash payout to a massive amount of abuses. The article fails to mention the number of allegations per year (less than society, way less than the public school system) as opposed to breaking down how that money was doled out. The third issue is that the article states that this is still an ongoing issue. They fail to mention that the VAST majority of the allegations are from decades ago, often times well after the priest is dead. A LOT of things have changed since then, including very struct abuse/reporting training. When single cases are being settled for 15, 20, 100 million, it doesn't take long to get to 4 billion for abuse allegations... since the history of the church.
