True story. I ran into a doorknob yesterday trying to kill a moth (which terrify me) and freaking out. Have a big bruise on top of my shoulder, and it hurts like hell. I couldn't believe it. I thought "huh, I guess people DO run into doorknobs."

Sounds credible. I could see a blatant symbol like using scarfs and doorknobs to send a message, while leaving room for the story to have the headline of 'suicide by hanging'. That way most people only hear about the suicide, and the people that the message is for get the message loud and clear.

Hanging yourself from a door knob is possible but really unlikely.

These claims are mostly correct, they all died by suicide from hanging from a doorknob, most specifically the closet doorknob (except Kate spade). But robin Williams and Chester Bennington were belt, Chris Cornell exercise bands, and there were "other signs of attempting suicide", pills or self mutilation.

The door knob is a weird idea... Mostly for the fact the hollywood always portrays suicide by hanging by having the rope strung up to a rafter, and a stool being kicked out. Where did all these people get the idea to use a scarf (not a rope or a cable), and a door knob (not a banister, or rafter)?

It is very possible with a decent scarf and doorknob. You don't hang like someone hangs themselves from a rope in a tree. All it takes is the ability to position yourself so that you don't roll out of the choke once you pass out. People do it by accident while masturbating all the time because they pass out and can't escape. Much easier if you don't plan to escape.
