Just ask them a simple question:

"Are you in favor of restricting the freedom of speech?"

datjedi

heh, anti vaxxer. Anti vax industry is more like it.. they have corrupted a good science

KiloJuliet

As someone who has studied vaccines in a scientific way I am of the opinion that vaccines should be scrutinized case by case and not universally rejected.

I am thankful for my vaccines that's for sure. We can see places like India that still fail to control polio as a good example of why vaccines are a good thing.

datjedi

If only the industry didn't demonize them by forcing them upon those with free choice and claiming all to be safe. Unfortunately that is not a world we live in and i've learned it's much safer to not trust anyone in the industry because most are evil as fuck

ItsSwiftty023

Great. It was only a matter of time right?

I'm not an anti-vaxxer, per se , but some might call me that. Americans over-vaccinate. I worry about the cumulative effect on the immune system. We vaccinate for exceedingly non-lethal diseases, such as chicken pox. We vaccinate for social causes, like HPV, even though in other contexts the received wisdom is that "viruses don't cause cancer". (Saying that in the 70s was tinfoil-hat talk.) We don't really let people pick their vaccines or strategies. Taken collectively, the "pro-vaxxer" stance doesn't make much sense either.

Let me ask this: imagine a pro-vaxxer. He wants me to get my vaccine. Why? Theoretically this decision should only affect me. I'll get whooping cough (or, more accurately, my child will) and I (or my child) will die a painful, horrible, avoidable death. Fine. But the pro-vaxxer gets his shots. (Yay!) He won't catch herpes or ulcers or Crohn's disease from me. So why should he care?

I have some theories about that, but I'll refrain. Let me leave it at that: why does the pro-vaxxer care what the anti-vaxxer does?

pm_me_firearms

Personally, I get the Polio vaccine. I get most vaccines. But I like to be informed of what's going into my body. Injecting anything directly into the bloodstream carries considerable risks. For instance, I'm supposed to get the Chicken Pox vaccine. Problem is, I got the actual Chicken Pox when I was 5, and have a lifetime immunity. So I don't have that. I also don't get the flu vaccine, because it doesn't even work half of the time.

I am also against letting the government forcing anyone to get a vaccine, because that's an extremely slippery slope.

madmalloy

A few vaxs are good but most are a scam.

Diseases went down dramatically in the last century thanks to hygiene and hand washing, not vaxs.

samtrovaum

Anti-Vaxxer shills. Yeah, that makes sense. Not.

HexTq

Well some vaccines may be milking, but not all vaccines, thats sure.

Sciency

You just read what I'm saying, and I'm not about to let you use your lack of original opinion and playbook of fallacies to "ah-hah" me into losing the social battle of forum discussion.

Make your claims, or move on.

Sciency

I'd say both answers to the problem are foolish, but one leaves no chance of mushroom poisoning.

Sciency

And not every mushroom is poisonous, but I don't go around checking.

Sciency

The certainly have. Look how they react to being called out for breaking sub rules: https://voat.co/v/news/comments/246804/813651

I was a bit drunk when I posted this stuff, so sorry abut the grammar. I usually wont edit unless my intended meaning was fully lost to my writing skills. Regardless, it really fits with the profiles given by the gentleman's guide to forum spies that hit the front page a little while back.

ItsSwiftty023

Nice! I like how you handled that.

Sciency

I'm far more concerned with anyone who is pro-pharmaceutical industry.

madmalloy

There's a sub here (v/Vaccinemyths) that's fallen fallow and I thought it was an anti-vax sub so I posted a few things there over the last few weeks.

Last week I read the side bar and saw it was originally intended for the vax believers.

Oops!

ETA: I suppose we could overrun the sub. :)

joseph177

Yeah that is probably a mix of useful idiots and some actual shillers.

SpeakYourTruth

I'm sure they have, but you also must consider that most pro-vaccination folks are just regurgitating what they've been told their entire lives. I know plenty of intelligent people who are like that, doesn't mean they're shills, just brainwashed. Let's do our best to inform these people instead of harassing them, with enough people on board we can at least get some people to reconsider their beliefs on the subject. Ofc with obvious shills it probably wouldn't hurt to call them out on it too :)

Yes, let's inform them and make sure that the discussion about vaccines does not end at the 'good or bad' crossroads. Let's look at pharmaceuticals, in history a lot of 'medicine' was sold that later proved to be actually bad for you or even poisen or kill you. On the other hand there is stuff like penicillin. We don't rally about 'Pharmaceuticals: Yes or No' we look at the specific product and then decide. The same should be done with vaccines.

And one other thing that always bugs me is the false theory of uninformed people that if everybody is vaccinated then that particular virus will disappear and never bug us again. Well actually the exact opposite is true. Vaccination works by infecting a person. And that person goes through the stages of that particular disease, including spreading it to some degree... So actually all those stockpiles of vaccines make sure that the most dangerous diseases will stay with us for a long time.
