I was just considering this question a few hours ago. My conclusion, bad things happen to good people because they are easy targets. It is nothing they do that provokes others to attack them in various ways, it is only that they are not a threat, and these assholes who do the attacking are always seeking to find "soft" targets to unlease their malice and hostility on.
