The premise is good, the article is fucking garbage.

You can't spell idiot without I-O-T.

IOT isn't a thing, its a suite of sensors and applications.

IOT was just the rebranding, and it works under the premise of 'Collect all sensory data by all means possible'

Honestly, its genius, and its worth trillions. Ther will be issues, data sec being one. However how much does your data sec group care about environmntal sensors data leaking out?

Do not put Anything of value on the IOT framework, but collect that low value data in the terrabytes per second. This doesn't translate well for Residential, but it does for Commercial and Industrial applications.

man...

people actually buy shit like google home and alexa and willingly invite those companies into their damn bedrooms just so they dont have to walk across the room to turn off a light switch what fucking hope do you have of convincing them not to buy a fridge that buys its own milk.

I have a friend, IQ of ~120. He's been so thoroughly brainwashed that the first thing he did was buy a Google Home thing, when moving in to his own place. Got those Philips Hue lightbulbs, and a bunch of other (((IoT))) gadgets. He doesn't like it that when he asks me a question, I always answer, "I dunno, why don't you ask the NSA? HEY, NSA , sorry, HEY GOOGLE...". Even otherwise perfectly intelligent people fall for this shit.

Reminds me of this quote,

There are two kinds of sufferers in this world: those who suffer from a lack of life, and those who suffer from an over-abundance of life. I have always found myself in the second category. When you come to think of it, almost all human behavior and activity is not, essentially, any different from animal behavior. The most advanced technologies and craftsmanship bring us, at best, up to the super-chimpanzee level. Actually, the gap between, say, Plato or Nietzsche, and the average human is greater than the gap between that chimpanzee and the average human. The realm of the real spirit, the true artist, the saint, the philosopher, is rarely achieved. Why so few? Why is world history and evolution not stories of progress, rather this endless and futile addition of zeros? No greater values have developed. Hell, the Greeks 3,000 years ago were just as advanced as we are. So what are these barriers that keep people from reaching anywhere near their real potential. The answer to that can be found in another question, and that's this: which is the most universal human characteristic: fear or laziness?
