Pithy and appealing, but isn't it named after a ceasar, as is August?

MinorLeakage

It is named after THE Caesar, not just any old Caeser. That's also why none of the later month's names make any sense. Sept is 7, but is now the 9th month. Oct is 8, Nov is 9, Dec is 10, they're all 2 months late now.

Correct. July - Julius Ceaser August - Augustus

Youre half right.

Marc Antony renamed 'Quintillis' which was Caesars birth month to 'Iulius' in his honour.

'Sextillis' was renamed 'Augustus' by decree after a plebiscite after Caesars successor Augustus defeated Marc Antony at Actium.

But given that Augustus was named after Caesar youre still kinda right in the other direction!
