A friend who works at Walmart as the self checkout manager is tasked with simply observing if anyone doesn't pay for something. She will take a note with a timestamps and present it to her boss. They are not allowed to confront anyone who takes without paying and this confused me until I read about walmarts facial recognition computers. They know who you are, where you live and other personal information as soon as you walk into their doors. So I imagine a court summons comes in the mail for those who do such things.

Thousands Of Stores Will Soon Use Facial Recognition, And They Won't Need Your Consent

'Retailers are turning to facial recognition software to identify potential thieves by comparing scanned images of shoppers’ faces against a database of known shoplifters. '

'But Peter Trepp, the CEO of the facial recognition software company FaceFirst, told BuzzFeed News that “hundreds of [retail] locations, growing to thousands very soon” have been outfitted with the company’s facial recognition software as part of their stores’ overall security systems. '

'Dollar General, Gap Inc., Macy’s, Costco, and Walgreens told BuzzFeed News they do not use facial recognition software in their stores. '

'Walmart also scrapped a test of facial recognition software in 2015 because it didn’t “have the ROI,” or return on investment, according to Fortune. '

'She said the test has since concluded and the company does not currently use facial recognition cameras. '
