Mark o the beast

They'll never win. They will appear to win for a period of time, but their narrative is self-destructive and cannot endure. The trouble is, during the time it persists it causes untold amounts of suffering to ordinary people. But they will never actually win. They are just noise, in an historical sense -- historical noise.
