He had a specific clause for double payout in the event both buildings were attacked by terrorists. So that's the total insurance payout due for all the damages on both buildings and then multiply that by 2. So he got about 1.75 payout in the end after legal battles.

Lucky larry only ever put down about 100 million largely not his own money for buildings that the port authority had condemned in the 80's due to asbestos. The repair bill was estimated at around 900 million to remove it all.

The other bidder for the wtc complex dropped out last minute so he was the only offer for those mostly vacant buildings.

Thank god for that dermatologists appointment that morming or Larry would have been in them. They dont call him lucky larry for no reason.

What really doesnt make sense is that Vornado Realty Trust was awarded the world trade center in February 2001. They backed out of the deal and it subsequently went to Silverstein. Why would he hire a firm to plan for a building he was outbid on? Did he play some backroom game to get Vornado Realty Trust out of the way?
