The Verge and Alexis Ohanian ( conspiracy )

submitted 2015-07-14T07:23 by hexydes

So a few weeks back, I stopped going to The Verge. Their journalistic integrity is questionable, they have written multiple articles about the group chat app called "Slack" without disclosing that their parent company (Vox Media) and Slack share a large investor in the form of Accel Partners. This wouldn't be an issue, except for the fact that there are a number of alternative group chat options that they have not covered once.

About two weeks ago, just before the Reddit maelstrom, they announced that they were closing down their chat section for a while. While this is not without precedent (they have done it once or twice before), the timing seems...interesting. Their coverage of the entire Reddit debacle has been very...careful, would be a good way to describe it.

Then I remembered that Alexis Ohanian (new CEO of Reddit) did a number of video specials for The Verge called " Small Empires ". While as stated I no longer frequent the Verge, I couldn't help but check to see if they had the integrity to cover Yishan Wong's post about Alexis' firing of Victoria, like their competitor Engadget did . As it turns out...nothing so far. Engadget posted the article a few hours ago, so perhaps it's worth giving the Verge a bit of additional time, but I'll be very interested to see if they choose to shape the news, rather than report it, as they have done in the past.

It's worth keeping an eye on, they're proving themselves to be a very shady tech "news" site.
