Wow...wtf this is so spot on it's creepy

Dysnomia

Fuck their judgemental asses. I'm nor ashamed.

DJexs

I came to voat because I was shadowbanned from reddit. As far as the average person goes I am pretty sure my information is safe. I know my information is still on their servers but no average joe can get to it.

deathcomesilent

I noticed that when I checked all the accounts I know of. I had my original "conspiracy account" banned when I tried to call out a post for being a psy-op. Could have been any number of reasons I guess, but that strikes me as a hell of a coincidence.

Funny enough, it's actually a pretty useful tool against shill-accounts as well. Double-edged sword.

deathcomesilent

I'm glad a few people get what I'm driving at here. Be safe, and fight for your privacy, even if you have nothing to hide!

Rigel

I'd like to point out that the site you linked caches reddit account data. I just looked up the account I deleted last week, and it still knows all my comments.

Creepy indeed.

AllenIll

Thanks for posting this, it's a great find and something important to be aware of. I definitely see the downsides for sure, but this may be a useful tool in analyzing potential shill activity as well. Especially since it's in the public domain. I put together a post last night where I encouraged others to offer up their thoughts about how to best spot shill behavior here:

How do you spot a shill?

Also, I posted a lecture today which highlights a lot of these concerns that was recently given at the RSA (these issues extend way beyond just Reddit usage):

Frank Pasquale on Big Data - RSA London (6-11-2015) 19 Min.

I wrote a simple applet to give me a fresh PW for each account. It's not exactly masterful coding or anything, but it was a fun afternoon project!

OrangeKraken

There is no reason to use the same name for everything with websites liked iddit and voat, doing so will only give people a reason to search for your details and find a way to exploit it. A lot of people will immediately check your posting history to see what "bad" opinions you have or whatever.

Its just not worth the hassle having a long history, especially if you talk about more taboo subjects. People will seek to point discussion to irreverent areas.

nemateneved

Great. Not enough that my ex-roommate thinks that I am a lesbian, now a stupid website too.

a1

you could still make a different account here, OP

deathcomesilent

Not to worry, I've made enough ripples that I've actually been properly doxed before.

I'd need a new irl identity before I ever get to hide again, haha. Thanks for the concern though, thats kind of you.

cooledcannon

Eh this side is real interesting. Hell it tells me things about myself even I didnt know!

BobbyBlack

Interesting, but I harbor no illusions about how much they have on me whether trying to be sneaky or not.. I am not afraid of being known by my name, or how I feel about anything I comment on. Let em come. I am right here. Fuck em.

deathcomesilent

Respect! I'm sure they have some weird porn-viewing habbits to hold against me, but nothing that I'm overly embarrassed about.

Let em come indeed.

Tleilaxu_Ghola

I feel the same way.

I still scrubbed most of me comment history though. Everything older than a week has been overwritten with an "Alt-255" blank space.

VictorSteinerDavion

Lol, it recommended I sub to men's rights and gamerghazi.

If that's the best their profiling can do I have nothing to worry about.

I stopped using the account that identifies me IRL a long time ago for this very reason.

p.s. my name here is not my name there.

jenidaninja

Good think I deleted my account! User not found heheh

Donutdacat

And this was just the push I needed to delete my accounts at the other site!

Damn, I've really gotta do some online house cleaning tonight. Thanks for the reminder.

klongtoey

instead of deleting, use the greasemonkey reddit overwrite tool. replaces all your comments with a message of your choice. am gonna use that "looks like you've had too much to think" image.

deathcomesilent

Anyone who checked my username our probably noticed my top comment is a little weird. That is the default message for the greasemonkey script. Glad people actually care about this stuff, I went to bed with 2 upvoats and zero comments.

klongtoey

we care! i care!

kloops

I tried it on myself, Some stuff is accurate but other stuff really is not.

spooz

You could of course just delete your account.

ItsSwiftty023

I deleted my account and I cant find my info on that page so there's that.

deathcomesilent

You could, but that doesn't change the fact that information is never truly destroyed on the internet.

spooz

No, of course not but it does mean it won't be publicly available via a website such as snoosnoo.

deathcomesilent

Again, correct. The problem is, the info is ALWAYS out there, it's just not certainly available to you all the time. Google has chashes and archives, and anybody with a degree in network administration can create a crawler these days. Just because you can't find it, does not mean it ceases to exist.

Still, I get it. You're not worried, and that's your choice. I'll stop harassing you about it.

spooz

Never cross the streams on any public forum. One id for one thing, one for another, etc.

deathcomesilent

Amen to that. Live and learn :')

FoundersDiscount

Mine is a little untrue. Then again I was only a redditor for 3 months. It has some right but others are literally totally wrong. The assumptions part that is.

OWNtheNWO

I'm sure people have probably tried to dox me, but all they are going to find are dead ends.

deathcomesilent

Same, I'm sure that happened long before I was first shadow-banned on reddit for discussing psy-ops in a default sub.

As you may have noticed, this crawler program is not exactly fool-proof, but it's still a problem for those who don't know they have anything to hide.
