Last Saturday six days ago we set up a Meade Coronado Solar Telescope (PST) to observe the sun just before sunset. There were a line of people waiting to look thru it and by the time I got the chance clouds had obscured the sun, then it set. Anyway the point of my post was that people who had a look said there an unusual number of prominences on the sun and some solar spots. It was unusual because the sun has been generally sedate prior to this event. These solar storms do interfere with satellites. I personally never got the chance to see if the storms were worse than usual, but the reactions of people who did gave me the impression they were.
