Buried in the middle of the article is a seed of what is probably the real truth:

The illicit chips could do all this because they were connected to the baseboard management controller, a kind of superchip that administrators use to remotely log in to problematic servers, giving them access to the most sensitive code even on machines that have crashed or are turned off.

The ongoing vulnerability of IME/AMT/TrustZone is the major weakness here. This is like leaving a lockpicking kit under your doormat, and then reporting that due to a clever attacker, the doormat was made too thin, making the lockpick easier to notice. The problem is the lockpick.

These stories are being pushed by think tanks like the RAND corporation. They want us to go to war with China. Same advisors pushed for Iraq war. Kissinger bullshit.

It's astonishing what's gone on... Communist China was deliberately made to rise by traitors inside the US. McCarthy who opposed the Communists was hospitalized and murdered. US power was shipped away to the Communists in the name of public relations...

And now an attempt to make war again to quiet the awakening populace and get those juicy human sacrifices...

Companies yeah, but the US government military etc also use the chip. This is being skimmed over.
