Care to elaborate if we are going to argue?

  • Twitter -- ads (and we are not talking the ones blocked by adblock)
  • LinkedIn -- paid accounts for companies
  • Yelp -- ads (and we are not talking the ones blocked by adblock)
  • Amazon -- sales and paid services
  • Salesforce -- paid SaaS

They may not be making tons profit because they spend a lot for money for expansion, but they are very different from reddit in the sense that they have sustainable monetization models and if they stop the expansion they can live with their models.

That, or destroy it at all costs. DDOS or some other controversy.

Let hope though that neithed happens.

Yes, I absolutely agree with you. It's all about gaining market share today and not the actual profit. Yet the companies you listed have sustainable monetization models whereas reddit doesn't, apart from its reddit gold thing (which is basically donation).

COUSCOUS

Very open ended "call". Have there been any indications of this? Maybe reserve your "call" till you have something to go on. Just saying.

Mark Zuckerberg slaughters and eats goats Does that mean Voat will be consumed by facebook? I think so.

dake

Not necessarily (and even if that happens, we can always walk away). Now, this is all just my pondering and I don't know much, but the thing is reddit with their 160+ mln userbase (a huge huge amount) is not even profitable. The old idea that you can make a decent platform for users to engage and basically work for free (like generate and moderate content) while you collect tons of money off it is either proving wrong with reddit or at least shows to be really challenging (not as easy as it was thought when Conde purchased reddit). I don't think another conde needs another reddit with all the problems it entails.

SloppyJoe

I'm inclined to agree, I'd imagine the founders wouldn't be able to walk away from the right offer.

LostnTired

If they're smart they'll have something ready to pop up after Voat falls.
